Nanaimo, in the Central Vancouver Island

beside the only natural harbour on the eastern shore of Vancouver Island
with the mildest, sunniest climate in Canada. Sheltered waters lap against
the beaches and the off-shore islands offer a picturesque venue for visitors.
Mount Benson overlooks the city with its rolling green space with rivers,
creeks, lakes, marshes and woodlands.
Nanaimo is 35 km across the water from Vancouver and Highway 1 brings you from Victoria in about an hour and a half. There are regular sailings from Tsawwassen and Horseshoe Bay in Vancouver by B.C. Ferries and you can bus to Nanaimo from Victoria or Vancouver. By air, there are regularly scheduled flights departing and arriving almost hourly.
