Built in 1867, The Dalton is Victoria's oldest hotel with much of the original architecture is still visible. The exterior of the building, especially the front, is as the building was when it was first built. The lobby is furnished with oak paneling, brass and marble that are a delight to see.

The Dalton Hotel is close to several important Victoria shopping districts - Chinatown, Government Street/Trounce Alley/Bastion Square and the Fort Street shopping district, also known as Antique Row.
