In the winter Mount Washington Ski Resort,
a full facility destination resort, is the perfect place to go. With
the highest snowfalls in the Pacific Northwest there is terrain for
all levels of skiers and snowboarders and, also, groomed trails for
cross-country skiers. In the summer hiking, mountain biking, and guided
horseback trail rides are popular activities. The area's diving is considered, by the Jacques Cousteau Society, the "second best cold water diving destination in the world, after the Red Sea". Local diving shops and/or charter operators can help out with advice and equipment rentals. For those of you who enjoy a good walk Campbell River's waterfront and downtown area are great. At the local wharfs are large numbers of beautiful boats, some owned by the rich and/or famous (you should be able pick them out). You can even rent equipment and fish from Canada's first saltwater fishing pier. Maybe you can break the pier record of a 50 lb. Chinook caught in 1994 (the old record set in 1987 was only 49 lbs.). Also remember to bring your binoculars since all sorts of boats and ships, including spectacular cruise ships, are passing by day and night. Elk Falls Park also offers an excellent walking environment with trails along the Campbell and Quinsam rivers. There is much to do and whatever you decide to do you will enjoy yourself. |
