To the north go to Robson Bight Reserve and view the orcas or cross to the mainland and go to Desolation Sound with warm waters, beautiful scenery and plenty of shelter. Guided tours and lessons are also available. This same area is perfect for sailing or yachting with numerous islands, bays, anchorages, and facilities. Campbell River is an excellent spot to stock up on supplies and spend a day or two in civilization with its docks right in the heart of the city. No matter what kind of water craft you have the fishing is the best and if you didn't bring a boat there are many charter services and guides available.

If you don't have a boat or just prefer to keep your feet on dry land beachcombing could be the answer. A 15 to 20 minute drive south are Storries and Saratoga Beach offering swimming, beachcombing and bird watching. Also in the area is Miracle Beach Provincial Park with its Nature House and activities such as beach seining, an ideal spot for a picnic.

Golfers of all levels can enjoy a round or two. Just minutes from town is the challenging 18 hole, par 69 Sequoia Springs Golf Course with a lovely garden patio and the Sand Trap Restaurant. "A Course in Nature" is the way the Storey Creek golf course describes itself. Enjoy sharing a challenging round on the 6,685 yard, par 72 course, carved out of second-growth forest, with families of wild blacktail deer.

Camping in Island Rain ForestsIn the winter Mount Washington Ski Resort, a full facility destination resort, is the perfect place to go. With the highest snowfalls in the Pacific Northwest there is terrain for all levels of skiers and snowboarders and, also, groomed trails for cross-country skiers. In the summer hiking, mountain biking, and guided horseback trail rides are popular activities.

The area's diving is considered, by the Jacques Cousteau Society, the "second best cold water diving destination in the world, after the Red Sea". Local diving shops and/or charter operators can help out with advice and equipment rentals.

For those of you who enjoy a good walk Campbell River's waterfront and downtown area are great. At the local wharfs are large numbers of beautiful boats, some owned by the rich and/or famous (you should be able pick them out). You can even rent equipment and fish from Canada's first saltwater fishing pier. Maybe you can break the pier record of a 50 lb. Chinook caught in 1994 (the old record set in 1987 was only 49 lbs.). Also remember to bring your binoculars since all sorts of boats and ships, including spectacular cruise ships, are passing by day and night. Elk Falls Park also offers an excellent walking environment with trails along the Campbell and Quinsam rivers.

There is much to do and whatever you decide to do you will enjoy yourself.
