Roadside Fruit Stands

Your tour of the North Okanagan begins in Enderby, nestled along the banks of the Shuswap River. This farming community is close to wilderness vacation resorts renowned for their hunting, fishing and boating. Tour a trout or deer farm or sample fruit in season from the many roadside fruit stands.

Continuing south, the pioneer charm of Armstrong and Spallumcheen awaits with many heritage homes and tour sites, including the Armstrong Cheese Factory where you can take a tour and see their world famous cheese being made. Plan to visit the Interior Provincial Agricultural Exhibition and Rodeo, British Columbia's second largest agricultural fair, held the second week of September.

On your way south, The Historic O'Keefe Ranch first established in 1867, is a heritage site with 12 of the original buildings to explore. From here it is a short drive into Vernon, a clean bustling city with small town charm. See Vernon page.

Horseback AdventureHiking, mountain biking, and skiing are popular pastimes with the area's Silver Star Mountain Resort at the focal point providing all-season activities. Silver Star, offering 1890's Gaslight-era village atmosphere, a mile above sea level, just 25 minutes from Vernon, is a skier's paradise in the winter, and a summer wonderland of outdoor hiking and mountain bike trails, rollerblading circuits and horseback riding. The scenic chairlift ride is even available to take visitors and cyclists up the mountain for guided alpine tours.

Travel east of Vernon to the village of Lumby. Here, camping and hiking spots are available as well as in nearby Cherryville where you can even try your luck at panning for gold.

Heading south into central Okanagan, visit pictureque Oyama with its many popular RV/campground resorts at Kalamalka Lake and at Winfield, site of one of the continent's largest Alpaca herds.
