Located just steps away from the base of the quad lift at Kimberly Alpine Resort and down the road from the acclaimed Trickle Creek Golf Course and nearby Shadow Mountain, Bootleg Gap and St. Eugene golf courses. Mountain Spirit is also minutes from the town of Kimberley, a charming Bavarian-style town with gourmet restaurants, pubs, galleries, coffee bistros, bookstores and shops as well as the largest freestanding cuckoo clock in the world!

world's largest cuckoo clockKimberley, Canada's 2nd highest town after Banff, is located on Hwy 95A 28km (17.4 mi.) north of the Hwy 3/95 junction and 27km (16.8) south of Hwy 93/97. Named after Kimberley, South Africa, it came into being as a mining town in 1893 when the North Star Mine opened. Instead of diamond mining like its namesake Kimberley has silver, zinc and lead. With the mines shutting down the city is developing into a destination resort with a major ski mountain, excellent golf courses and a Bavarian theme.

Kimberley is modeled after a classic Bavarian village where you can sit in the central square, known as Der Platzl, and enjoy outdoor band concerts and fresh strudel.

In Der Platzl you'll also find the world's largest cuckoo clock, hand painted fire hydrants, hanging flower baskets, a trickling water fountain, decorated foot bridges and a wandering minstrel. Stroll through Cominco Gardens, where 48,000 flowers bloom each year, or follow the Mark Creek nature trail that leads to Marysville Flats with a 100-foot cascade of water.

At an altitude of 1113m (.692 mi.) and with North Star Mountain the new direction is only natural. Attractions for the whole family includes the Kimberley Resort’s Family Fun Park and The Bavarian City Mining Railway. The fun park features a 3,500-foot alpine slide and the North Star Mountain chairlift where it is a good idea to take your camera to get some shots of the stunning views.

The railway features a 200-foot trestle, a haunted schoolhouse and Ice Age stone. The informative and historic tour departs from the railway’s station every hour. The mountain has a 701m vertical drop, 44 runs, and one run of 6.5km and the longest lit run in North America. There is also Nordic skiing.

Along with the rest of the Kootenays/Rocky Mountain area the surrounding countryside offers an abundance of parks, rivers, lakes, and mountains for the outdoor recreationalist.  You’ll really enjoy a visit to Kimberley the Bavarian town that says “Wilkommen (welcome) visitors”.
